Being as taxidermy, bone collecting, feather collecting, and all stuff vulture culture is an ongoing hobby of mine, I was wondering if anyone else on PmC does the same. Anyway, so feel free to talk about anything taxidermy related! Mounts, pelts, skulls, bones, whatever! Do you have a collection of your own, or do you just find it interesting? Do you know someone who makes taxidermy? Have any favourite pieces you want to share? This is going to be a general hangout and safe haven for taxidermists, taxidermy admirers, or even just people who like to collect tails from Renaissance fairs. Taxidermists, contrary to popular belief, actually DO love animals. That's why they preserve the beauty of the animals. Not all taxidermists hunt the animals they work with. From my experiences, I've found most only use creatures who have died from natural causes. Remember, not everyone is going to have the same opinion as you. And yes, your ~moral beliefs~ in this matter are merely an opinion, and should not be expressed as fact or be forced onto others against their will. Be kind, be respectful. Don't bash on other people. If you don't like taxidermy, don't rant about it here. This is a place where taxidermists can talk about their craft without being attacked for it. That being said, you're still allowed to ask questions. Just as long as your civil about it.
I've got a pretty small collection as of now. the first I've ever gotten was a coyote skull given to me a couple years ago on my birthday. It's lost a few teeth and one of the cheekbones has been partially broken, but I love it all the same (plus its a pretty sweet art reference). Then I've got are some assorted deer bones a friend and I found, dug up, and cleaned. There's a shoulder blade, two parts of a leg, ribs, and a vertebrae. Next is various bones from a rabbit I buried a while back, although I couldn't find the skull, probs broke it digging it up or something since I did such a poor job. I've also got a deer tail, shark jaw, and some sort of antelope horn my friends gave me. My most recent find is a bat and wow the skull is so small. Well, was. My dad ended up spilling the container into the grass since the bones were so small and he thought it was somethin weird my little sisters made. I did manage to salvage some ribs and the two shoulder blades, but that skull is gone. Also have a feather from a crow, possibly a hawk? and a songbird's feathers. I'm also in the process of cleaning the songbird's bones, just gotta bury it and let nature do it's thing first. That's all I've got, although I hope someday I'll be able to mount something myself and I'm slowly getting materials to get into insect collecting ayy
I managed to get my friend into all this vulture culture stuff so now we go bone hunting every now and then. I also gave her a polyphemus moth that I found, since she's just starting out (plus I don't have the stuff to rehydrate and mount it /single tear)
