Silver's Wildlife Photography! 2.10 RARE FALLOW DEER!!

Post by Silver-Sparrow on Jan 19, 2018 12:50:26 GMT -5
So new year, new thread. The old one was getting too long, not to even talk about messy! So I decited to start a new one for this year. Also, to avoid messyness and lag, I will be only choosing 1-3 (depending how many photos I have per 1 time) photos to put as spoiler and give a link to full Imgur album where you can then go to see the rest. I am sorry for changing it this way, but I think it just saves time and space on the thread.
What to expect? If you are new to my photoraphy; I am hobbyist wildlife photographer. My targets are deer&moose, but any animal will do, really. Still as I aim for deer&moose, this thread will have mostly those animals. I photograph only wild animals in their natural habit! It takes hours and hours to get them on camera, and only 5/10 times I might succeed, depending on the time of year.
EDIT: You will see there written: "Spoiler removed" it means how I keep removing some spoilers for the photos and replace them with link to imgur. Last time I had too many spoilers in thread, making it laggy and glitching. I keep the thread lighter by removing older spoilers. Not all of them will be removed nescessarily, but some will be. I hope this doesn't bother anyone.
Please do NOT use, copy or claim these photos at yours. I do alot of work for these, so please respect that! x'3

In the imgur album, theres most of the story but it went like this:
I was out in one field, but I started feeling like I should change place (I sometimes get that feeling) and once I did, I arrived to other field through forest and saw 3 deer! I went all low, half crouching i the snow on my knees, with camera and camera leg (I abandoned my backback to be less showy) and managed to get around 7 meters close. Close enough for my camera to get close-up photos! ^^
UPDATE 29.1.2018
Soo I was photographing on weekend (27th of january) and I walked in forest and went to check one field. Soon I saw deers and since this was my last chance before it'd get dark, so I crouched in mud under some low fir trees to get some photos. I had bad luck with me, since I cracked a twig and they all went on alarm state. I only got one in 5 on photo, but I managed to get one wonderful shot of her:

TWO MOOSE!
So I was shed hunting (more in off topic, I made a thread about it) and I didn't come accross any sheds, but I don't care since I came across these guys! Two moose, maybe siblings probably, other one having antler studs so definetly was a young bull. I did this very nice crawling on my knees half a field to get close enough for best shots -krhm- xD In the snow! So now there is nice rail of knee crawling tracks...something for someone to think about if they find them haha!

A FOX! I caught a fox on camera x3
I was walking outside with my mom and my dog in the area where I usually photograph. We saw 5 deer close by (6-7m) but I failed to get a photo. I was alitttle disappointed and down, but soon we reached the forest road. I told mom to wait with dog as I would quietly (well as quietly than you can in crunchy snow) walk along the road until I would reach the field. When I reached the field I looked and saw something in snow. I first wouldn't believe it. Then it stroke me. It was a fox. A fox sitting and staring at me, all calmy without any hint of fear.
I quickly took my camera and took several photos, wich the best one is up there^ and rest 3 in my imgur album which show the fox starting to walk ( imgur.com/a/NcXfH ) so yeah the fox did move away, but without any hurry. I don't know if the fox was as surprised and confused as me, since I don't believe it wouldn't be a wild fox. Because the area I was in is very low in houses or humans, actually I might be one of the rare humans walking around there. It's very much just wilderness. Wich made this experience really rare and I can't believe my luck!
My childhood dream was to capture a fox on camera. Now I did it - for second time. But last one was a fox kit last autumn. Not an adult fox. I don't know wich one is more rare tho x'3
31st DEER JUMPS!!
So I was walking outside with mom and dog (again) and we met two roe deer! One buck with big antlers and a doe with him. They soon started jumping, and as it's somewhat rare for me to get good shots of them jumping, these ones looked quite hilarious!
This is only one of the photos, I can't put them all here, but I suggest checking them up on imgur: imgur.com/a/T5Hzg
But yeahh x'3 it was quite fun! I also have one idle photo, it's the first one in the imgur album.
Hope you enjoyed as much as I did of these photos x'3
4.4 (actually taken 30.3)
So I was walking to the place I felt like choosing for this day as stalking place. This is a rocky area by a very popular deer path and it was sunny day so I knew that most of the deer are hanging around in areas just like this one. This is also the same area I photographed the deer fawn buck with his mother and also where I photoshot Prince the gorgeus buck. So I was positive that I would get lucky. Well I did, sooner than I thought. I didn't even reach the stalking place when I looked forward and saw a deer looking back. I froze. Luckilly, thanks to my camo-suit, the deer didn't figure that I was there, also I stopped right in time. They were by the rocky area between trees and old hay. I photoshot couple yearling does with their mom; the leader doe, who was smart enough to catch me, but they didn't really panic, just left the place. I was at least 6-7 meters away, but still I'd call it close encounter.

I almost wlaked past her. Dang, how do you not see a moose that is OVER 2m tall? Easilly if you ask me...but when I saw her I nearly got a heart attack. I was not expecting this o.o And she was huge, I swear. Luckilly I got some photos before she ran away with a bull moose.

There xD A nice wild encounter. I really love these photos.

I caught them too while being camping!
30.6 Sunlight and green! Beautiful does!
She was crazy close...like 4 meters. I really dislike when this mistake happens. Getting too close to wildlife is maybe very thriling and unque experience, but also can cause harm to the animals and should never be attempted on purpose! But I definetly did not try this. I was walking in the forest as the deer walked past me really close. I managed to get photos, but I was also making sure nothing bad would happen, ready to back off. I was standing still quietly, not threathening the animal in any ways. I let the animal leave the scene in peace, which she did. After that I just continued on my way.
Next photo I took while laying still hidden at the field:
White tailed deer are so pretty!
UPDATE 13.7!!
Prince! My boy is back! He is my favourite buck, I met and photoshot him last autumn, collected his shed antlers this spring and now our paths crossed again! It might be just a deer to others, but it warmed my heart to meet him again. As you may question; how do I know it's him? Antlers, buddy! I have his shed antlers and new ones have grown much enough so I can tell it's him. (Also I know alot bucks in the area, and most of the does as well, leading me to be very close and just regognize the deer with ease; I see deer several days of the week!)

imgur.com/s625jq0
Also, I did photoshot 3 other deer; INCLUDING A BABY!
imgur.com/ezYItvH
First thinking it's roe deer, I took photos. I didn't see too well, the deer was far away enough and so small. Then I saw the tail knowing that it was white tail...but how it was so small?? Then I looked closer on the photos and saw that it's a fawn! So cute!
Now i got several photos of 2-3 year old buck, and one other deer. I still am in progress of getting the best of them (c) marked but 2 can be found here:

There you go! I had a very good photography journey yesterday!

There you go! Gotta love these cute animals!
5.8 UPDATE
It's early august, roe deer are on rut. Of course I would use this opportunity for my good. Deer calling is a thing mainly hunters use at rut season. It is a thing you should do only with great responsibility and you should know the risks and possible followings.
I used a doe distress call for bucks. It is a call doe roe makes when a buck who she haven't chosen to mate with tries to mount her and she is calling in for a better buck.
I three hours in this guys arrives:
imgur.com/a/EZ3aRiY
Very handsome buck! He arrived from the side of the field, that was when I once more did the call and he started walking towards me. He arrives four meters away, where I stay hidden in another field, only a river between fields seperating me from him. He doesn't see me and soon turns away, going back where he came from and starting to roar out a mating grunt. It was awesome to see a deer in real life doing that!
UPDATE 14.8
As the first time calling in a roebuck worked out so well, I invited my friend to come with me on second round.
I was scared it would not work at all, but after 1h of calling a roebuck comes in, running around the field, disappearing couple times. Then disappearing completely for some minutes.
I whisper to my friend that he probably disappeared, since he ran to our back right, maybe he crossed our scent line? Then...I hear hoof steps and turn to see a reddish brown deer staring back into my eyes right 3 meters from me. He had come from our back right just before the scent line started, so he didn't scent us. The buck gives us a look, then I grab the camera. He starts walking from infront of us without any fear. He walks across the field as me and my friend look at him in shcok. I am glad my friend is as responsible as me and didn't move or threathen the animal. This encounter, as the deer didn't panic, went safely for all of us. And totally left an everlasting, amazing memory!

UPDATE 18.8
I know I have seen some rare sightings, but NEVER anything like this! I know exactly what species moves in my area. I know most of the deer in my area. But yesterday I saw something I could not believe was true! Yet it was, right infront of my eyes!!
FALLOW DEER?! We do have fallow deer in my country but only in southern parts but not so much in my area. There should not be any exactly where I live.
I saw two deer on a field while moving to my stalking area. I saw right away they weren't white tails. Coloring, size, butt and tail black marks were not something you see on white tails. So I zoomed in an I saw spots on adult buck deer. I knew now for sure that what I thought was real, I saw fallow deer!
I saw more clearly their antlers and head shape and everything added in that these guys look nothing like white tails.
imgur.com/1XieVzL
This is from where I saw them in another field abit later. These two bucks were like from my dreams. I knew I saw something that I might not ever see again in my area, yet maybe..maybe they are moving in?

What you think? I fell in love with this deers amazing design and look, they are so elegant!

Idk how much I keep posting here, probably not everything I photograph anymore but let's see...
OKAY TO THE ACTUAL PHOTO I WAS SUPPOSED TO SHOW x3
Here is another capture of the rare fallow deer on frosty morning at sunrise I took last weekend for you:
imgur.com/dFieZvS
What you think? I am so amazed I managed to capture something like this!! The herd of them seemed to run out of nowhere, first they weren't there and they they were...does and fawns and this yearling buck! I believe they might be moving in my area which has me hyped! I totally would love to see more of them! There is only about 600 fallows in my WHOLE country so it's super rare to see one, specially in my area
Hope you enjoyed!
