Prologue:
Hundreds of bodies swarmed in the clearing, backing down from the fight. The largest wolf stood up in the center, looking at the humans that had surrounded the pack. He curled his gray lip into a snarl at the humans as they held up wood sticks with metal attachments. A medium sized black wolf came up behind the gray one. "Alpha, what do we do?" he asked.
"Get the pack out of here, Arhi," said the alpha. "And get Mute, I wish to speak to my son."
Arhi nodded, and came back with a small white wolf with blue eyes. "Mute, I'm afraid that it's time you lead the pack," he said, and Mute's eyes grew wide.
"But, Flight, I'm not ready!" Mute replied.
"It's not my choice. Take care of my sister for me, my son." Mute watched as Flight walked away from him.
"Follow my son, he will lead you to safety," Flight announced.
Mute turned, swiftly and took off in a run, the pack following, leaving Flight alone with the humans.
Chapter 1 - Flight
Flight stood beside his mother, Hargin. He only had his mother, sister, Silver, and his uncle, Storm. His father was killed when a rock struck him from one of the metal sticks that humans carried.
Flight and Silver never got along, she was older and was told to keep Flight safe, but seemed to avoid the task whenever she could. So, he sat alone in the shade after Hargin went to find Silver. Then Storm walked up and sat next to Flight. Storm was growing old and you could see his hip bones sticking out when he walked, and he didn't leave his den much in his old age. "I will be joining the gods, here soon, nephew. And I want you to lead the Fallen Ashes Pack," Storm explained
Flight could only stare at his uncle, he was hardly the size of a coyote. Surely Storm had a reason. "Does Harhin know?"
Storm nodded, got up, and walked away.
That night, Flight was woken by the sound of chaos. He lifted his head and Silver climbed into the den. "Get up you lump."
Flight yawned, realizing he hadn't told Silver the news about Storm. "Silver I-"
"It's Storm. We can't find him anywhere!"
"What?"
"Well, get up and help!"
"Silver, we need to talk. There's something I need to-"
"It can wait," Silver ducked out of the den and took off. Flight sat there, terrified. How could he get the pack to listen, if he couldn't even get his sister to? Flight looked to the sky and whispered, "I need you now more than ever, Ro. Where are you?"
