{Spoiler :PROLOGUE:}
The large room was surprisingly quiet except for the occasional sound of a pen scribbling on paper and the air conditioner blasting cool air into the already chilly room.
Stainless steal cages lined one of the walls, many of which were empty. Some of the cages held the shape of small animals. Others held a smaller cage designed for mice or rats. One would think that the building that the room belonged to was a veterinary office if it was not for the many scientific tools throughout the room.
A man mumbled quietly to himself, as an evident clink of medal dropped onto the stainless steal workplace where he stood. Startled squeaks and hisses sounded from the cages before the closest thing to silence continued. Laying upon the workplace was a white rat, scurrying around the space. When the rat wandered away too far, the man would gently move it back to the center.
The man, was adorned in dark blue scrubs, with a stark white lab coat placed neatly on his shoulders. He typed away, quickly on a keyboard and paused every once and awhile to glace back at the rat, who was now nibbling on a spare piece of paper. The man revealed a smile, although the rest of his expression was hidden behind the reflection of the screen upon a thin framed pair of glasses. He clapped his hands together happily and sat back onto an average office chair. The rat jumped at the sudden noise and the man picked it up and rubbed the bottom on its chin, while he continued to stare at the computer screen.
After a short while, the man got up and sat the rat into a small cage nearby. He carefully pulled off his lab coat and neatly folded it up and sat it on the chair behind him. He tapped his index finger on the rat's cage and gave it a white, toothy smile before hurrying away to a door nearby and disappearing behind it.
After what seemed like hours, he came hurrying back into the room, carrying two covered stainless steal trays. He sat the trays carefully on nearby the rat's cage. He opened the drawer right under the surface of the work space and pulled on two, light blue plastic gloves. He uncovered the first tray which revealed two empty syringes and two labeled vials, fulled with no doubt some sort of medical drugs. One of the vials held a clear liquid while the other had an iridescent blue hue to the liquid. The man pierced one of the syringes into the the vial with the clear liquid and slowly drew the liquid into the syringe. After he pulled it out of the vial he flicked the syringe with his figures. He pulled the the rat out of its cage and injected the needle into the rat's skin. It squirmed in his hand as he gently laid the rat onto the surface of the work place.
The man lifted his wrist and watched the watch carefully as the the second hand ticked by at a quick constant rate. Soon the rat stopped moving around and laid still on the tabletop, breathing slowly as if it was asleep. The man then moved quickly, he uncovered the second tray and pulled out an array of tools and sat them aside, but he kept a scalpel in his grasp. He held the rat gently and sliced a cut into the flesh and tissue on the rat's head. Blood immediately oozed from the wound and the man quickly wiped it away as he continued his steady work.
The man reached for the second tray and picked up a small container. He quickly ripped off the lid and and pulled something out of the tray. His movements hastened as he prodded and poked before quickly stitching up the wound that he made moments before. After the rat was successfully patched, with thin stitches that almost made the rat look like some sort of patched up doll, the man picked up the second syringe did as he had done before with the first, except with the blue vial.
He pulled off his rubber gloves and dropped them a waste bin nearby and then sat back into his chair. The man rolled the chair closer to where the computer sat and went back to typing and taking notes once more. When he turned away the rat suddenly convulsed then laid eerily still. As the man's attention returned to the rat, a string of curses escaped his mouth as he threw the pen that he was holding across the room. He ripped off his glasses and leaned back into the office chair. As the man was massaging the corner of his eyes, he was unaware of the fact that the rat was not yet deceased. It was not the first breath the rat took after it convulsed to grab the man's attention, but it was the twitch of it's hairless tail. The man immediately jumped from his chair and quickly pulled a stethoscope from one of the many drawers nearby, and pressed it gently to the rat's chest. There, he heard a faint yet strong thumping of the heart.
The man gently picked up the rat and sat in back inside its cage and quickly brought it over to the cages lining the wall. He sat the cage inside the larger cage. There the man pierced the rat with a small needle and tube, which lead to a bag of fluids and a monitor.
The man sighed with relief as he closed the door to the cage. He dragged a hand through his short hair before returning to the computer and fiercely adding more notes on both paper and computer. After awhile he stopped then picked up a phone nearby and dialed a number. There was a noticeable ring, ring, ring, of the line attempting to connect to another. The man waited until he heard another voice on the other line before he spoke quickly.
"Hey... Uh, yes I can promise you this was worth your time... Yes!...The test, as of right now, is a success! Yes? Uh-huh... No... at least not yet. Only time will tell if the whole experiment is a success. We should see some signs in about a week... Yes! We will move on to the next stage of all goes well... Hmm? Oh about week, or two at most."
